Our project began Thursday the 3rd of November we where introduced to are project, over an 11 week period we will be working collaboratively in partnership with Plymouth museum and art gallery to reduce an exhibition proposal based around the museums existing collection by producing a presentation and an accompanying research journal or blog.
After initial looking at the space we started to brainstorm ideas around the space, should we suspend something from the ceiling? Should we use a hidden space? Should it be on the walls? We all agreed that lobby area was a particular area of interest it is well lit, symmetrical, large, and has the biggest footfall as everyone must walk though it.
After doing some initial research into the museum one of the definitions we found was “shrine of the muses” this entreated me as I was attracted to the word “shrine” apposed to the word tomb or morsaleaum witch is also a word commonly associated with the museum this idea was reinforced when we conducted an analysis into the artist Grayson parry who’s latest show “tomb of the unknown craftsman” a show set around the idea of the museum as a place of pilgrimage and remixing and recreating existing artefacts from the museum within his own work to produce an arc honouring the unknown creators of artefacts.
Early on in the project I was growing increasingly frustrated we were coming up with lots of ideas but never really getting anywhere and found it difficult progress without knowing exactly where we were going working as a group had its ups and downs when we got together and disused our ideas we accomplished a great deal and came up with some great ideas however I feel we would have benefited if you whole group could have met on a more regular basic, it was very difficult to keep track of who was doing what was being done and by when, we overcame this by setting up a group blog this meant we where all able to document what we where doing and what needed to be done
I feel that we also may have divided the role unfairly, all thought I did contribute to the project significantly in the form of the presentation construction, promotion design, research, theme development and editing artworks after looking back over the blogs I have realised that Paul has done a considerable proportion of both reasruch documentation and evaluation of our project .
In order to expande our expand I would conduct further research into the legends and mythology behind the muses, famous people they have inspired throughout history.
Over all I enjoyed the project however I am externally disappointed with myself and the way in witch I set about documenting this project, although I has significant input I feel that my person recording skills of my thoughts and ideas could have been conducted in a more efficient way, if I were to re-do this project I would take proportions to ensure I regularly documenting all thoughts and processes as they happened with continues reflection as I go something I feel I have a lack of thought-out my work.
